This auction is for the Tahoe Turquoise 1966 Convertible that we recently acquired from a gentleman who owned it since 2001. The car had undergone a very nice cosmetic restoration about 3 years prior which means the restoration is about 14 years old. As you will see the car still looks beautiful and is one of my favorite color combinations with the matching Pony Interior. This car is just as it left the factory in its original color combination. It was an original Luxury Interior ( code 76B ), C-code 289 V8 Automatic car in the colors you see it today. This Pony is believed to have just under 74,300 original miles as is stated on the Title. The gentleman we bought the car from drove it less then 3000 miles in the 11 years he owned it and decided it was time to pass it along to the next lucky owner. If you have been searching for a beautiful Classic Pony Convertible to drive and enjoy and perhaps take to the local shows and cruise-ins then this may be the one!! I drove the car for several hours yesterday in the 80 degree, sunny Atlanta weather and it performed beautifully and received many thumbs up and honks along the ride. I will do my best to provide enough pictures, a couple of videos and an honest description so you can determine if this stallion belongs in your stable this fall. Sit back and enjoy!!
The body on this ’66 Convertible is in beautiful condition. The restoration that was done approximately 14 years ago has held up very nicely and this car certainly draws attention wherever it is driven. Paint quality is very nice overall and we recently had it professionally wet sanded and buffed so it is ready to go the day it hits your driveway. Overall body panel alignment is very good although not perfect. This car was restored to a nice level but it was a car that was built to be driven and enjoyed, not trailered. As a result there are some minor spots in the paint from age and wear that you would notice upon close inspection. There are no bubbles or signs of rust on the body but you will see a few nicks or chips that have been touched up over the years. There is a dimple on the center line of the hood about 6 inches from the front edge and there are a few spots on the hood where the metallic paint has discolored a bit from being buffed over the years. There are some chips in the paint on the door sills when you open the doors that have been touched up. Chrome, bumpers and trim all look excellent. The GT style stripe along the sides of the car is a great accent to the Turquoise paint. At some point a GT style rear valence was added which features the great sounding dual trumpet exhaust. Windows all roll up and down nicely and seal up well to the convertible top. Overall I would say this Pony is a very strong driver quality car that can be taken to the local shows and cruise ins proudly. It is not a concours restoration nor is it priced as such. This is a classic that you can get in , drive, and enjoy while it continues to appreciate in value. Here is a walk around photo tour of the body and that the end of the listing is a video walk around tour.
I always recommend dropping the top on these awesome classic convertibles as much as possible but of course it is nice to know that the white convertible top on this car is in fantastic condition. It is a power top that operates quickly and smoothly and latches down easily. The rear window is very clear. The white boot cover snaps on easily when the top is down. Here is a look:
Complimenting the beautiful exterior is the Luxury two-tone Pony Interior in the Aqua and white combination. The interior is also in terrific condition and the seat covers are believed to be the originals. Overall, as you will see they look great. There is a minor cut on the drivers side bottom seat cushion that is about 1/4″ and there is some discoloration in one spot on the white portion of the rear passenger side seat. Neither of these flaws was significant enough to warrant doing anything and you may not even notice them in the pics. The door panels look great with just some minor cracks in the door handle area on the drivers side that is common. Of course the Luxury interior cars have the woodgrain looking dash and glove box that look very nice. Woodgrain looking steering wheel is in great shape with just one separation that is quite common. Gauges are all working and are very clear and easy to read. There was an aftermarket custom auto sound am/fm/cassette installed many years ago without cutting the dash. The dash pad is in very good condition although I noticed the chrome trim that usually goes along the bottom edge is missing but can be purchased inexpensively and easily installed. Carpet is in very good shape although a bit faded from age as are the matching Pony floor mats. Overall though, as you will see, the interior looks great!
Powering this beautiful stallion is the original C-code 289 V8 2bbl with what is believed to be just under 74,300 original miles. The motor pulls very strong and is mated to the original C-4 Automatic transmission which shifts smoothly. The 289 breathes out of the stock manifolds in to a very nice sounding dual exhaust hat exits GT style through the dual trumpets out the rear valence. Handling is a breeze thanks to the Power steering and Power brakes!!! Front and rear suspension have been redone over the past few years as well as the power steering. I put on about 40 miles yesterday at local and highway speeds and this Pony was a joy to drive!!! The original styled steel wheels are wrapped in a nice set of Firestone Whitewall Radial tires that have tons of tread life left. The motor has been nicely detailed under the hood and I have added a video below so you can hear her start up and run.
