If you have been searching for a Classic Mustang Convertible that you can drive, enjoy, take to the car shows and cruise-ins but also will stand out among the rest then this Silver Frost and Red ’66 might be your stallion!!! We recently acquired this one from a great car gal who had owned it since 1998. She lived in Louisiana and was a member of the Mustang Club of America in her area. The previous owner was also a club member and they had this beauty fully restored in 1991 in its original color combination.  This Mustang was a R Code San Jose, California production car that is believed to have spent the majority of its life in California, Texas, and then the last 20+ years in Louisiana. It is a factory C-code 289 V8 Automatic transmission with Air conditioning that was added in the 1980’s.  The previous owner enjoyed this car immensely and took it to all of the Club events and shows.  She also took some nice long trips in it and reported that it always performed great and was as reliable as any classic car she had owned.  after 14 years of ownership she found she was driving it less and less and that it was time to let it go to its next lucky owner…maybe you!!! I will do my best to provide enough pictures, a video of the car running, and an honest description to help you decide if this is the one for your stable.  There will be many large images that may take a few minutes to load but I think you will find it worth the wait. Sit back and enjoy!!!

The body on this ’66 Pony Convertible is in fantastic condition and appears to have all of its original body panels. Having spent all of its life in the dry climates of California, Texas and Louisiana it was not subjected to the harsh roads and weather conditions that so many did.  Body panel alignment is great and the body is very, very straight as you look down the sides.  I have photos and a 2 page hand written list of what was done in 1991 when it was restored. I do not see any evidence of rust along the body. Given the fact that this car was restored 20+ years ago it truly shows both the quality of the restoration and paint work as well as the great care its owners gave it. Of course it was always garaged and covered when not in use. All of the chrome, bumpers, weatherstripping look great as well.  The only minor flaws I could find were a very small air bubble in the paint along the drivers side door and a minor flaw under the clear coat on the rear passenger side quarter panel. I also noted a small rock chip down low on the passenger side of the windshield.  We had the paint wet sanded and buffed and it has great reflection and shine. This Mustang is still worthy of entering in the local shows and will probably still win its share of trophies if that is what you enjoy. I love the color combination and it is even better to know that it is painted the original Silver Frost Color that it came with from the factory. I am sure the next owner will be thrilled with the condition of this Classic Pony. Here is a photo tour of the body:

Complimenting the Silver Frost Metallic exterior is a stunning red standard interior that was also completely redone at the same time as the exterior in 1991. Everything looks fantastic still and it is amazing that this work was done 20+ years ago.  Seats, door panels, dash pad, carpeting all look great!  The gauges are all very clear and function correctly. Courtesy lights works including the light on the back of the center console. The center console itself also looks great. As you will see there is an aftermarket air conditioning unit that was added in the mid 1980’s. The Air conditioning seems to working correctly although it may need a charge. I have a receipt from when it was charged in June 2011 and it is blowing cool but not as cold as it probably could. The steering wheel does not have any of the typical cracks and looks great. The matching boot cover that goes over the convertible top is in great condition and appears to be the original boot cover with a date code of October, 1965. Although I believe these Classic Mustang Convertibles should be driven top down whenever possible it is also nice to know that the Black convertible top is in great condition with a very clear rear window. The top is manual which is actually really easy to put up and down and the original hold down clips are still in place and it latches closed unite easily and seals up very well. The interior on this car is just as show worthy as the exterior and needs nothing!  Here is a look at the interior and top.

Under the hood you will find the original C-code 289 V8 with what is believed to be just under 74,950 miles on it!!! Because of the cars age it is difficult to say if this mileage is accurate but receipts and history seem to be in line to make me think this is the original mileage. There are many receipts for maintenance and repairs over the years showing that the car was always very well maintained and kept running well. It is still the original 2bbl carburetor. This car runs fantastic and I have personally put about 40 miles on it in the past couple of days and it cruises as nice at 70 mph as it does at 35 mph. You will be proud to op open the hood of this Pony at any car show or cruise in.  The front suspension was completely gone through years ago including control arms and ball joints. Manual steering and manual brakes which both function with ease and steer and stop the car easily.  Great soft rumble from the dual exhaust and this Pony has a great stance thanks in part to the brand new set of 15″ Styled Steel wheels wrapped in brand new BFG Radial TA tires. The fronts are 15×7 with 205/60/15 tires and the rears are 15×8 with 25/60/15 tires. Below are pics of the engine bay and a video so you can hear it running:

It is no surprise, given how good the body and interior of this Mustang look, that the undercarriage and inside of the trunk are equally as impressive. The floorpans and torque boxes are rock solid and completely original. We were thinking about detailing the undercarriage but instead decided to leave it alone so the next owner could see how awesome and original it was. You can see some of the original red oxide primer still on the floor pans. Inside of trunk is also rock solid with no rust issues. Nice trunk mat and spare tire with correct cover finishes it out. Vin # is still stamped on the driver side inner fender well and door tag shows all the codes demonstrating this car is just as it came from the San Jose Production facility.  Here is a look at these areas:
