YOUR DREAM CAR HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!
I think it is appropriate to start off by letting you know that this car ABSOLUTELY looks as good and probably even better in person then it does in the pictures in this listing. This car recently arrived to us here in the Atlanta, GA area from North Carolina where it has spent its entire life. This car has a DSO 22 which is Charlotte, NC and we purchased it from a gentleman who owned it since 1997 and told us the car spent its entire life in the state of North Carolina. When he purchased the car it was the original color of Springtime Yellow which is a very pretty color and is actually the color of my first Mustang I bought when I was 16. He drove the car for several years as he bought it. But the owner had plans to take this beautiful car and restore it the way he wanted. He was a skilled engineer with a passion for Mustangs and began what turned out to be a long term restoration process that was completed in 2007 and has been driven approximately 3500 miles since then. Since 2007 he entered the car in 3 shows and told me he won first place every time….a story I have no problems believing. This is not your average Mustang, it is a very high quality car that was meticulously restored and although it has been years since it was finished it looks like it was just restored yesterday!! I will do my best to provide enough pictures, a couple of videos, and an honest description to help you decide if this is the one you have been waiting for. Sit back, relax, because this one is a rare find!!!
BE PATIENT AND ALLOW ALL OF THE PHOTOS TO LOAD…I THINK YOU WILL FIND IT WORTH THE WAIT!
I think this Mustang Convertible can safely be termed a Restomod. There are many opinions in the collector car hobby as to what constitutes a Restomod but to me it is simply a classic car that has been restored and modified, plain and simple. Well, you better believe this car has been restored. However, it started as a very solid car that needed very little in the way of rust repair. I was told that the only areas that required metal work were the lower rear quarter panels and the inner trunk drop offs. These areas commonly rust from water that sneaks in to the trunk over the years and when done properly is an easy fix. Lower rear quarter patch panels were professionally welded in as were new inner trunk drop offs. The body on this ’66 is drop dead gorgeous!!! The body panel fit and paint quality are better then factory in my opinion and were good enough to win 3 first place awards at the 3 shows it was entered in. Keep in mind that this car was no rush job. The restoration process stretched over about a 7 year period, being done methodically and meticulously by a skilled owner who utilized a professional painter to lay out a show quality finish. The owner was looking at the 2004 Mustangs on the showroom floor and fell in love with a Cobra Convertible that was finished in Torch Red with a Tan Convertible top. Using the best Dupont Base coat and clear coat paint this Springtime Yellow classic became the Torch Red beauty you see here. The paint was done in July 2005 and seriously looks like it was done last week! You will look long and hard to find an imperfection. I think I noticed one small rock chip that was touched up but otherwise she is near flawless. Lets not forget some of the modifications done at the time the body was done. A few tasteful Shelby touches were added including a Shelby style front apron, side scoops and hood scoop. All of the chrome trim was replaced and Bullet style side view mirrors were added. High Performance 289 front badges were added, front grille was tastefully treated to a Pony emblem off to the side, and the iconic Shelby Cobra GT350 fuel cap was added. As you can see the body is slick and without going overboard shouts Classic Pony muscle!! Here is a walk around tour of the body and there is a video tour of the car at the end of the listing as well:
Of course most of your red mustang convertibles will have a black or white convertible top but that wouldn’t stand out now would it? Styling his car off the 2004 Torch Red Convertible he saw, the owner added a tan convertible top to this Pony and although I will admit I was not a huge fan of it at first, I must say that it is a stunning combination that adds to the uniqueness of this stallion. The convertible top is a manual top that functions easily and clips down in place with the original clips and is neatly covered by a like new convertible top boot. The convertible top frame itself was blasted and painted to look like new. Bottom line is that this beauty will probably be enjoyed top-down most of the time and inside is the classic black Pony interior that you would hope for. Every piece of the interior has been redone and looks absolutely brand new. This car originally came with a standard black interior but the owner smartly chose to recover the seats with the deluxe Pony style seat covers. I will not list the new items because it includes literally just about everything. Another slight modification to the interior was the addition of white face gauges as well as an upgraded stereo system that is ipod capable and has nice set of speakers neatly mounted in the front kick panels. There was a ton of $$$ spent on the interior detailing and convertible top replacement. The center console was completely redone as well as the stock shifter. An aftermarket Hump hugger console was also added giving you cup holders and storage. As you would expect all of the gauges are working correctly. The windows, front and back all roll up nicely thanks to new window regulators and the glass is in excellent condition all around. The interior of this sweet Pony is basically in show condition as is the rest of the car. Take a look:
This Torch Red Stallion was born a C-Code 289 2bbl with a 3-speed manual transmission but during the restoration process this little C-Code was given a steroid injection and when the motor was completely rebuilt the owner added some goodies to make sure it had the Giddy Up to match her good looks. There has been less then 3500 miles put on the car since the restoration was complete so this is one strong Pony!! A few of these additions include an Edelbrock Performer, Holley 4bbl, Edelbrock water pump, Tri-Y headers breathing out through the H pipe and dual Flowmasters exiting the dual chrome tip exhaust. She has a sweet rumble that you can hear in the video at the end of the listing. This Pony runs cool thanks to the newer 3 core radiator. All new wiring harnesses and Pertronix electronic ignition to replace the points. No doubt you have noticed the awesome stance thanks to the new suspension all around with slightly lowered front coils and reverse eye springs in back. All new front end components and polyurethane bushings help this Pony handle the road with ease. Lets not forget the awesome set of Boyd Coddington Smoothie 17×8″ wheels wrapped in a like new set of Falken 225/45/17 tires. The Power from the rebuilt 289 exceeds that you would get from an A-Code and is closer to that of a K Code Shelby type feel. Ultra Smooth shifting completely rebuilt 4-speed transmission is a joy to drive. Manual steering is tight and surprisingly easy and the entire 4 wheel drum brake system has been gone through and stop easily. I imagine you could add disc brakes but quite honestly you do not need them! As you will see from the pics the engine bay is nicely detailed and you will be proud to pop the hood anywhere you go. The original buck tag is attached to the passenger inner fender and the original VIn # is clearly stamped on the drivers side. Check it out:
As you would expect the undercarriage of this Mustang was also carefully restored. Floorpans and torque boxes were rock solid and were media blasted and painted in a semi-gloss black. Keeping in mind this was done over 6 years ago I think you will agree the underside looks awesome. The underside of this car is just one more area that separates it from the majority of Classic Mustangs you might be comparing it to. Inside the trunk you will find an equally nice detailed compartment with the proper plaid mat in place. receipts for just about every part purchased during the restoration were saved by the previous owner and will be included. Here is a look around:
