The body on this A-code Special order Silver Frost ’67 Pony Fastback is absolutely gorgeous and the pictures do not do the color justice as I think it looks even better in person. Ordinarily I would be extremely worried by a car that was purchased in Illinois and spent all its life there until 11 years ago but this is one of those exceptions to the rule! This was somebody’s baby and it did not see winter driving and as a result did not accumulate rust and it appears to be wearing its original body panels. I do have a photo album of the restoration that was done by the second owner and it is just amazing to see how little surface rust was on the car and just how original the body was. When the second owner purchased it 11 years ago it became a labor of love for a father and son and it was taken to a professional restoration shop for the final body and paint work. I think you will agree that it still looks amazing 11 years later. The only flaws I can think of to mention are a few very tiny bubbles at the bottom corners of the doors that have not broken the paint and perhaps a tiny chip or two that have been touched up. Otherwise this car is super straight and show ready. Chrome trim, bumpers, emblems, etc all look fantastic. Glass is all Carlite other then the windshield and is in great condition and windows roll up nicely. The previous owner only drove this car to the shows and cruise ins where he took many trophies. It is still show worthy and can also be driven and enjoyed. Have a closer look at the body and at the end of the listing is a walk around video as well:
Slide inside this rare Fastback and you will feel like you are sitting inside a brand new ’67 Fastback on the Dealers showroom floor. Black knitted standard bucket seats are in fantastic condition and believed to be original!! Sport deck rear seat folds down and looks great. Original center console in amazing condition for the age as is the carpeting and headliner. The only aftermarket add ons appear to be the steering wheel and shifter knob both of which are in the restoration pics from many years ago and have probably been on the car since the 70’s. This car has the deluxe seat belts and courtesy light group and the seat belt light still functions. Gauges and lights all seem to be functioning correctly. Really not too much to pick on the interior but if I had to I would mention minor fading on the top of the drivers side dash pad. Overall the interior is show ready. Have a look around:
This A-code Fastback has it’s original 289-4V motor under the hood and has less then 76,950 original miles on the odometer. The motor is strong and stock, breathing out stock manifolds back through the dual exhaust. Nice soft pony rumble that you can hear in the video below. As indicated on the door tag and MARTI report this car was originally a 3-speed manual with 3.00 Limited Slip Rear Axle. At the time of restoration the owner decided it would be fun to upgrade to a 4-speed and heck, why not go with 4.11 gears for a little stop light to stop light fun. Obviously this causes it to be a little less then highway friendly for the long drives but if desired you could put stock gears back in the rear. she starts with the turn of the key, idles up a bit while warming up, slap the accelerator one time and she idles down nice and smooth. Manual steering and brakes for a true driving experience. Engine bay was neatly detailed and looks great. Stock styled steel wheels and BFG radial TA’s are in great shape. This Pony is fun to drive and runs cool. Have a look and then a listen to the video of it running:
HERE IS A SHORT VIDEO THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO HEAR THIS A-CODE START UP AND RUN:
Undercarriage is also rock solid and was lightly undercoated at the time of restoration just as it was according to the original dealer invoice in 1967. Inside of the trunk is very original and also quite solid. Here is a look:
As you will see in the MARTI REPORT below this ’67 Fastback is about to have her 45th Birthday on May 26th when she was built and was only 1 of 9 produced with these Paint/Trim Codes!!! Maybe you can get her in your garage and throw her a party!! After all she has only had 2 owners so far as shown by the complete documentation history that includes the original dealer Sales invoice and hand written order, original window sticker, original build sheet, original owners manual with owners name and info typed inside of it, as well as some receipts from various items from the original owners. I also have a copy of the original title when it was signed over to the 2nd owners in April , 1996. Vin # is clearly stamped on drivers inner fender apron and this car has its original buck tag still in place on the drivers side fender…RARE!! As you will notice on the original door tag there is no paint code. This happened when a customer chose a special order paint color such as the Silver Frost color chosen for this car. It is indicated on the sales order. I also find it humorous that this car was financed for 36 months in 1967 at an interest rate of 4 1/2%…pretty much the same as today’s interest rate! This provenance and documentation is something that one rarely finds on such a great classic Pony, but it is all here and will be turned over to the next lucky owner. Here are a few pics of some of the items.
HERE IS A FINAL VIDEO WALK AROUND TOUR:
Hopefully you will agree that this is one sweet AND rare ’67 MUSTANG FASTBACK!!! This car truly looks as good in person as it does in the pictures and it is a real head turner! This will be a great investment that you can drive, enjoy and take to the shows if you want. Finding one in this color and this condition will not happen often!!
