AWESOME AND RARE ACAPULCO BLUE 1968 FORD MUSTANG J-CODE COUPE!
Let me start off by stating why this 1968 Ford Mustang Coupe is a rare one. Aside from the fact that it is rare to find such a beautiful rust-free ’68 Coupe this awesome Pony is also documented by the MARTI REPORT to be 1 of 20 ordered in this color combination with the options it was ordered with. It is also 1 of 1 ordered as a Civic and Government Affairs vehicle. In addition to the Marti Report this car will also come with a reproduction of the original window sticker showing it was sold directly to the Ford Motor Assembly plant in Los Angeles after it was produced in the San Jose Factory. Below are some pics of these documents:
We recently acquired this sweet Mustang from a gentleman in Colorado who owned it for the past 6 years and only drove the car in the spring and summer months to cruise-ins and car shows and the occasional sunny day drive. He had a son getting ready to go to college and decided it was time to let it go. He explained that he had purchased the car from a guy locally who had purchased it from California. There is no doubt that this car has lived a dry, rust free life since it was produced in the San Jose. CA plant back in 1968. According to the previous owner this car was painted prior to him , probably about 10 years ago in the original Acapulco color. He was told this was the only repaint the car had and was only needed because the paint was worn and faded. As you will see the paint has held up beautifully and this Coupe is a great find with a long list of options. I will do my best to provide enough pictures and give you an honest description to allow you to decide if this is the right classic Mustang for you. There is also a short amateur walk-around video at the end. Sit back and enjoy!
Restored approximately 10 years ago, the body of this ’68 Coupe is in fantastic condition. This Pony appears to have all of its original body panels and the fit and panel gaps are excellent. I do not see any signs of any rust or rust repair along the body. There are no bubbles in the paint. The overall quality of the paint is excellent and you will see in some of the pics that it has plenty of shine and reflection and we have not even had the car buffed out yet. Upon close inspection you will find some minor flaws consistent with a classic that has been driven and enjoyed since its restoration. There are a few small chips in the paint along the drives side door edge and a couple of very tiny dings below the crease in the passengers side door. There is also a small indentation on the drivers side roof that I doubt will show up in the pics and is very minor. There is a hand-painted pinstripe along the sides of the car and a small stripe along the sail panel as well. Overall the body looks fantastic and is one of the cleanest rust free bodies you will find on a 1968 Coupe. This Coupe should win its share of trophies at the local shows and you will be proud to show up at any of the cruise-in events in it. Here are pics of the body:
The beautiful Acapulco Blue exterior is complimented nicely by the Deluxe Blue decor interior with woodgrain accents. The two-tone blue seats are in excellent condition and front buckets seats are divided by the center Console that has a rare convenience control panel option with low fuel and other indicator lights. Above the seats is a rare overhead console with map lights that work and is also accented with the woodgrain trim. Additional rare options include the Tilt-away steering wheel and deluxe seat belts. Dash looks great and all gauges and lights appear to be working correctly. Factory A/C is working but could probably use another charge for the season to be blowing at its coldest. Overall the interior is in excellent condition and the color combination makes this Coupe stand out among the crowd of Mustangs. The original door tag is still attached to the drivers side door and pictured below. Take a look:
This ’68 J Code Coupe drives as good as it looks!! Original 302 V8 was rebuilt about 6000 miles according to the previous owner. The motor was rebuilt to stock specs and pulls strong. The only changes that were made were the addition of a Holley 600cfm 4 bbl carburetor and a set of Ford motors chrome valve covers. The C-4 automatic transmission was also rebuilt at the same time as the motor and shifts smooth and strong. Total mileage on this car is believed to be original at just under 106,000 miles and it drives beautifully. Power steering makes handling a breeze and Power front disc brakes makes stopping easy. Suspension is nice and tight. The dual exhaust provides a nice soft rumble at idle. I have driven this car locally and at highway speeds and it drives out fantastic and runs cool. The engine bay looks nice and clean overall but could use a nice detailing if the next owner desired. The American Racing 15″ Torq Thrust D wheels look awesome and are in perfect shape. BFG Radial TA tires have plenty of tread life left on them. Underneath, this dry climate mustang is rock solid and rust free with all of its original floor pans and torque boxes. I did not doll it up at all so you can see exactly what you are getting and believe me it is rock solid! The trunk is also rock solid and original as well. Here are some pics of these areas:
Here is an amateur video to give you another walk around tour of this sweet Mustang:
