Are you looking for a true muscle car that has been restored to show condition but was built to be driven and not trailered?? Do the letters G-T-O bring back memories? Regardless of whether you are looking for a weekend cruiser to take to the shows and cruise-ins, a classic muscle car to get out and enjoy with the top down with the family, or a great investment to add to your collection, this ’68 GTO convertible is one you will be absolutely thrilled to own.  The previous owner bought this car about 10 years ago and had a vision of restoring it to a very high level without going overboard so that he could still get in it and drive it without concern.  He succeeded!!!  He indicated that this GTO was in great condition overall when he got it but was showing its age and sounding a little tired. What better way to wake up an old goat then a frame off restoration coupled with a complete rebuild of the drive train and suspension.  He put in plenty of hours of love and sweat on his own, leaving all of the major work to true professionals and believe me it shows!! He kept extensive records of everything that was done and he spent well over $35,000 on the restoration not counting the cost of the car and his own labor time.  The end result is an absolutely stunning, ground pounding GTO that glistens in the sun and will have you smiling from ear to ear when you turn the key. Completed about 3 years ago the thumping YS 400 motor has barely been broken in with less then 3000 miles on it since the build.  This PHS documented TRUE 242 GTO is well equipped including Factory A/C that has been updated, Power steering, Power front disc brakes and more!  I will do my best to provide enough large images, a video of the car running, and an honest description to help you decide if this GTO belongs in your garage. If you have missed out on others before, don’t hesitate this time! I have driven this car and am extremely confident that the next owner will be the 100% satisfied with this awesome investment quality muscle car. Sit back and enjoy!!

This ’68 GTO has an amazingly straight body and is truly in near flawless condition. As you will see in the PHS documents this car was originally Verdoro Green with a gold interior. Not a bad original color combo, but hopefully you will agree that the this GTO wears its new clothes quite well!!  The body appears to have most, if not all of its original sheet metal and the body gaps are fantastic.  The previous owner chose a gorgeous color. It is called Autumn Maple Red and it has some amazing metallic in it that truly glistens in the sunlight and then takes on a deep vintage burgundy look in the shade. The paint was done in 2010 and looks brand new! No flaws in the paintwork that I could detect and the front nose which is notorious for developing stress cracks looks perfect. A dual white pinstripe agents the body line. All of the chrome, trim, badging looks new. Original rear bumper was re-chromed.  Factory original hideaway headlights work correctly and were completely redone. Windows all roll up and down smoothly and seal up nicely to the convertible top. Glass is all in great condition.  Weatherstripping was all replaced.  I truly do not remember seeing a single flaw on the body but to be safe lets assume that there may be a rock chip or two somewhere that I may have missed. The body and paintwork are truly show quality and this car will win its share of trophies if that is what you enjoy! Here is a photo tour of the body:

I believe convertible muscle cars should be driven top down every chance you get but it is always nice to know that when needed you have a brand new power convertible top that functions like new. The white top looks great and the rear window is glass and crystal clear. The top has all new hydraulics and was completely redone front he frame to the pads and the top itself.  A new boot cover was added to give it that clean look when the top is down. Have a look:

Complimenting the gorgeous Autumn Maple Red metallic exterior is a beautiful white interior. The interior is in fantastic condition overall. The seats were actually already done prior to the previous owner and they are not the original style seat covers although they are original GTO seats.  The original white color that Pontiac used was a Pearl white which was more of an off white. The convertible boot cover is that color. The seats and door panels are more of a true white and look great but are not as new as the rest of the restoration. The rest of the interior was completely redone including carpeting, dash pad, center console etc..  New lights in the dash and all courtesy lights work. His/hers shifter int he console looks great and functions correctly. A great tilt steering wheel was added which really helps for the larger drivers. All of the factory gauges work except the clock and you will notice this GTO has the Rally Gauge pack. A nice set of aftermarket gauges were neatly installed under the dash to give you all the vital readings you need.  The original AM radio was updated. It is now a FM radio and there is an I-pod plug so you can listen to all your favorite music. This was done while still retaining the original look. Power top switch functions properly. Factory Air conditioning was update to R134a and blows nice and cold! Nothing needed…buckle up and go, go,go!! Take a look:

While this GTO convertible is definitely eye-candy the beauty and fun does not stop there!!! Under the hood of this muscle car is a power plant that begs to be driven and will be heard coming down the block. It has a correct 1968 YS coded block that i was told was not original so i cannot say this is a complete matching # car but it is definitely a correct motor and was completely rebuilt and has less then 3000 miles on the build. I have all of the receipts from the shop that pulled and rebuilt the motor. The work was done in September 2006 and was down by a professional Racing and machine shop in Maryland. All of the details of the work done will be included and some of the receipts are shown later in the listing. This motor was bored .30 over and has a great street cam with a very nice lope.Edelbrock intake and dual feed 750 Holley provide the fuel. Beautiful set of ceramic coated headers breathe out through a new exhaust with crossover and great sounding set of Flow Masters exiting the correct dual exhaust.  All of the components under the hood were replaced and new bolts everywhere.  The Factory A/C system was completely redone and upgraded to the modern refrigerant. All new fuel line and brake lines.  Power steering makes handling a breeze and Power front disc brakes make stopping this beast effortless. New 4 core radiator, water pump, and heavy duty fan clutch keep this goat running cool. All of the front and rear suspension was replaced with new including front end bushings, ball joints, tie rods, front and rear springs, and front and rear heavy duty sway bars. The handling is true and tight!! This GTO glides along the road at highway speeds and launches strong and hard. The original Turbo Hydramatic transmission was also completely rebuilt and shifts out beautifully. I believe the rear end is also original and rebuilt and is a 2:93 gear ratio so highway cruising is no issue.  There is nothing like a GTO convertible with the top down that has the GRRRRRR to the match its look. This ’68 is built and ready to rumble!! Make sure you listen to the video that follows the pics  so you can hear it start up and running.
