Many of you probably already know that Pontiac did not produce a Pure GTO Convertible in 1972.  For some reason they did offer the GTO in a Coupe but dropped the GTO designation on the Convertible. Well,  on January 14th, 1972 a gentleman who owned a business call Alexander Acceptance Associates went to Chieftain Pontiac in Winnetka, IL and purchased this Lucerne Blue Lemans Sport Convertible and ordered it with all of the same options as the GTO coupes had plus some other great options. These included the Endura Front nose option, 400 V8 4bbl, Dual exhaust, Ride and handling package, Power Front disc brakes, Air Conditioning, Power Windows and much more. There were only 3438 Lemans Sport Convertibles build in 1972 and with all of these options I would bet this car is 1 of very few ordered with these options making it a fantastic muscle car investment. We have tremendous documentation on this car including the original Sales Invoice, Protect-O-Plate, Manuals, PHS Documentation and receipt history.  We were told the car was restored frame-on approximately 6 years ago and was professionally done to a very nice quality. This Convertible Classic was built to be a local show and go type of car. It was built to be driven and enjoyed and it is ready to go!!!  I will do my best to provide enough pictures, a video of it running and an honest description to help you decide if this Pontiac Beauty should be in your garage. This beautiful Lucerne Blue Lemans/GTO appears to always have been extremely well cared for and maintained. The body and paint quality is fantastic and it is believed to have last been painted about 6 years ago.  Although this was never a frame off restored car, I think it is very fair to say that it had a frame up restoration done. Body panel alignment is excellent and body panels are extremely straight. I did not see any bubbles anywhere along the body.  The dual scoop ram air style hood looks menacing and lines up great. The Endura front nose is in great shape with no stress cracks that I could see. The Lucerne Blue metallic truly sparkles in the sunlight and is a gorgeous color on this rare convertible. It appears that the drivers side rear quarter panel was professionally replaced at some point but other panels look original.  There may be a few minor chips that have been touched up but the body on this car is definitely ready for the shows and looks fantastic.  Rear bumper, chrome trim, emblems all look great. As you can see they badged this car with 455 emblems although truth be told it is not a 455 car but does have the 400 4bbl V8 under the hood. Dual exhaust tips look awesome.  Pictures speak louder then words on this classics so here is a photo tour of this gem:

I always recommend dropping the top in these classic convertibles every chance you get but it is always nice to know that the white power top on this car works beautifully and is in great condition. It shows very minor wear with just a few marks on it.  The power windows seal up very nicely and the rear window in the convertible top is glass. A very nice matching boot cover covers the top when it is down for a slick look. Have a look:

Complimenting the gorgeous original Lucerne Blue exterior color is the equally impressive Ivory bucket seat interior. Front and rear seats look fantastic with just a minor spot on the rear seat that has been dyed. Door panels look great. Carpet looks close to new and a new set of GTO mats finish the look. Center console is awesome with just slight discoloration on the console door. Hurst his/hers shifter will bring back memories and currently has a Hurst T handle but the original black shifter ball is also included.  Dash pad looks close to new and all the gauges in the dash are very clear and work including the factory tach. Original AM radio in the dash and a factory style 8-track which I was told works is located at the front of the console. For those of you who prefer their music on those longer drives there is a great sound system neatly mounted in the glove box and speakers sit on the rear seat so that no holes were cut in the original door panels. This was an original Factory Air conditioned car however the system was removed. I do have almost all of the components other then the compressor which will be included to the next owner. You could easily add a Vintage A/C system and use the existing blower controls and vents to get ice cold A/C if desired.  Sitting inside this car will bring back some serious memories and the interior is show ready just like the rest of the car. This Lemans Sport/GTO was originally ordered with the Pontiac 400 4bbl V8 power plant. While this car still does have a super strong 400 V8 under the hood it is not the original matching numbers motor. I believe it came from a 70’s Pontiac and was completely rebuilt and I would estimate the power at about 300hp.  As you can see the air cleaner and badging on the body call out a 455 but it is a 400 car. Total mileage on this car is believed to be just under 127,250 but I was told there is less then 5000 miles on the completely rebuilt drivetrain. The 400 V8 is mated to what probably is the original Turbohydramatic 400 automatic transmission that was also rebuilt. Very nice Hurst equipped  dual gate his/hers shifter has this car shifting firmly and smoothly. Great muscle car rumble from the newer exhaust and flow Pro mufflers. ( Make sure to listen to this baby rumble in the video that follows) Power steering and Power front disc brakes make handling and stopping a breeze. Stock rear end with great highway gears so you can cruise at any speed comfortably.  This car always runs cool thanks in part to a newer heavy duty radiator. Speaking of new there are tons of newer components throughout this car including fuel tank, fuel pump, brakes, shocks, and much more. The suspension is very tight and this car handles the road fantastic. This car was ordered with the upgraded ride and handling package which included larger front and rear stabilizer bars. Original Ralley II wheels are in great shape and are wrapped in close to new BFG Radial TA rubber. This car really drives like a dream and sounds like a muscle car should!!!
The undercarriage of this car is very nicely detailed and is very clean and solid. Floor pans and frame rails are rock solid and rust free!! Inside of the trunk is also rock solid with no rust issues. It comes with the correct mat, spare and jack.
