ABSOLUTELY AWESOME, LOW MILEAGE, GOLD GLOW METALLIC, 1973 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 SPORTSROOF…1 OF 835 READY TO SHOW OR GO!!!
THIS ’73 PONY LOVES TO RUN AND IS BUILT TO HIT THE STREETS AND SPEND SOME TIME AT THE SHOWS AND CRUISE-INS WHERE IT WILL SURELY WIN ITS SHARE OF TROPHIES IF THAT IS WHAT YOU ENJOY. THIS MACH 1 IS OWNED BY A GREAT GUY WHO HAS BEEN A VENDOR OF OURS FOR YEARS AND WE HAVE GOTTEN TO KNOW HIM QUITE WELL. WE HAVE SWAPPED CAR STORIES EACH TIME HE COMES BY. HE MENTIONED THIS MACH 1 THAT WAS IN HIS FAMILY FOR YEARS THAT HE ACQUIRED ABOUT A YEAR AGO. HE THOUGHT HE WOULD HAVE THE TIME TO DRIVE AND ENJOY IT, LIKE HE DID WITH SO MANY OTHER MUSCLE CARS HE OWNED OVER THE YEARS. HOWEVER, TRYING TO RUN SEVERAL BUSINESSES HE FINDS HE IS NOT DOING THIS CLASSIC ANY JUSTICE KEEPING IT IN HIS GARAGE MOST OF THE TIME. HE ASKED IF WE WOULD ASSIST HIM IN TRYING TO FIND A WORTHY NEW STABLE FOR HIS STALLION. ONCE WE SAW THE CAR WE WERE MORE THEN HAPPY TO ASSIST. IN ADDITION TO RUNNING A CAR RELATED BUSINESS HE IS ALSO A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER AND RECENTLY TOOK SOME SHOTS WITH A FRIEND OF HIS WHO IS A PROFESSIONAL MODEL.
I THINK YOU WILL AGREE THAT BOTH THE CAR AND THE MODEL ARE BEAUTIFUL…IN FACT MANY SIMILARITIES COME TO MIND…STYLE AND CLASS WITH MUSCULAR, GOLD BODIES SURE TO ATTRACT ATTENTION ANYWHERE THEY GO. HERE ARE A FEW SHOTS FROM HIS RECENT SHOOT:
As shown in the MARTI report below this ’73 Mach 1 is 1 of 835 produced in this color with the trim options it was ordered with. Originally sold at Crest Ford in Rocky Mount, NC it is believed to have spent most of its life in the rust free Southeastern part of the country. The car was owned by the current owners cousin for the past 10 years. During his ownership the complete drivetrain was restored on this Mach 1 which included a complete rebuild of the original 351 Cleveland V8. The current mileage is 97,750 and is believed to be the original mileage. As you will see, this beauty still wears the original colors it was born with. The Gold Glow metallic paint is stunning and the Ginger interior is a great compliment. The 3/4 black Vinyl roof was an option only available on Sportrsoof models which sets this car apart, however it is not listed on the MARTI so I am not sure if ti was added at some point. I will do my best to provide enough pictures, a couple of videos and an honest description to help you decide if this awesome Stallion belongs in your stable! No better way to bring in the New Year then with a great investment in a great classic Mustang that you will be able to drive, show-off and enjoy for many years to come….Enjoy!!
1973 was the last year of the big body Mustang that was part grand tourer and part street brawler. The body on this Gold Glow Metallic Mach 1 is in fantastic condition and it is believed to have all of its original body panels. Although the owner does not have a complete ownership history, he does know that his cousin owned the car for about 10 years prior to him. The car had been repainted prior to that time so we are estimating the age of the paint to be about 12 years old. As you will see in the pics the Gold Glow color, which is the cars original color from the factory, has tremendous luster and the metallic really pops in the sunlight. Body panels are very straight and overall body panel fit is excellent with the big doors closing without any sag issues. Keep in mind this car has been driven and enjoyed over the years since it was repainted so there are a few spots where some chips or minor scratches were touched up. I do no think any of these will show up in the pictures but upon close inspection you will note a few minor flaws that certainly do not take away form the overall great condition. The Mach 1 hood looks awesome and the scoops have been opened for great air flow to the engine bay. Front and rear spoiler look great and rear window louvers were added at some point. Although these were not offered on the ’73 model they look awesome and are period correct looking. The 3/4 black vinyl roof is a rare option offered only on the sports roof model. For some reason this option is not listed on the MARTI or window sticker but it certainly looks to have factory correct moldings so perhaps it was added by the dealer or added early in its life. There are a few very tiny bumps under the vinyl top which are not soft and could easily be fixed if desired. I also spotted a few tiny bubbles down low along the front of the passenger door which is typical due to poor drainage in the doors. Black door edge guards were added and look great and the Mach 1 side decal stripe also looks great. All of the chrome trim and emblems are in excellent condition. This Mustang has that true Muscle car stance and the body on this Stallion looks fantastic and would be very show worthy. Here is a photo tour of the body:
Complimenting the beautiful Gold Glow Metallic exterior is the Ginger Ruffino/Corinthian Vinyl Bucket seat interior. Front bucket seats look awesome with practically no wear and the rear seat looks like it was never sat in. Door panels look great although the owner mentioned that the carpeting along the door panels is not the factory color as it was back ordered but should be available soon if desired.Interior carpeting was replaced recently and looks great. Interior panels were also replaced recently and center console is in great shape. The rear deck has a few small splits and the speakers mounted on the rear deck are not connected. Dash looks great and has had a cap put on that looks like factory dash. Gauges are all very clear and appear to be functioning correctly. An aftermarket tach was added many years ago and has a period correct look. Overall the interior is in beautiful condition and will show very well and is extremely comfortable. Take a look:
Under the Mach 1 hood is the original 351 Cleveland V8 that has been completely rebuilt and was nicely upgraded at that time. This work was all done about 5 years ago and it has probably been driven less then 5000 miles since then. At the time the motor was rebuilt the original 2bbl intake was removed and upgraded to an Edelbrock Performer intake and Holley 4bbl carburetor. The original intake will be included. The motor sounds like it has a mild cam and a nice set of headers was also added which are breathing out the 3″ pipes with a great sounding Flow Master exhaust that exits through the dual rear pipes. Mallory electronic ignition provides reliable starts. The FMX automatic transmission was also rebuilt at the same time as the motor and a shift kit was added. To have some fun with this newly added horsepower, which I am estimating at about 275-300hp the gears in the 9″ rear end were changed to 3:90 gears which offer some neck snapping stop light to stop light fun but are geared a little low for those long highway drives. The original rear gears will be included in case the next owner decides he wants to go back to the stock 2:75 ratio. The owner drove the car to our facility which was about a 45 minute drive on the highway and while it was turning about 3200 rpm it drove great and has no overheating issues thanks in part to a new radiator and transmission cooler. He was also told by his cousin that the steering box was rebuilt and new rotors and pads were put on the front power disc brakes. This car glides along the road, has new shocks, and handles very nicely and has a ladder bar traction system which prevents wheel hop on hard acceleration. Power steering makes maneuvering a breeze. This was originally a Factory Air conditioned car but the under hood components were removed. A vintage Air system could be added relatively easily if you want to get ice cold air blowing in the cabin. Beautiful set of Old school American Racing Aluminum wheels are wrapped in Cooper Cobra radial rubber that have lots of meat left on them. Engine bay is nicely detailed and this Mach 1 sounds fantastic as you can hear in the video below and is also a blast to drive.
What do you think…should we have a listen to this Stallion and see if she has some Giddy Up??
