BEAUTIFUL MERCEDES DIESEL CLASSIC 240D W115 4-SPEED WITH ONLY 92,500 MILES!
This beautiful, survivor quality 1976 Mercedes 240D is owned by my father. On a recent visit a few weeks ago he told me he decided it was time to sell the Diesel and asked me to take pictures and list it on Ebay for the next lucky owner to enjoy. A few years ago I helped him sell his 560 SL on Ebay and after we sold it he decided he always wanted a 240D so he went on a search for a high quality, low mileage one to enjoy on his weekend and sunny day drives. He located a great 1976 240D from a young musician in Tennessee and had it transported to PA where it has spent the last few years in my fathers garage. This diesel has lived most of its life in the South and never seen the snow or salted roads which accounts for why it is so rust free and solid. The history of the car, which is well documented, is that it was originally purchased in West Virginia and stayed with the original owner until 2003 when it was sold to an individual in Tennessee. It then changed hands again in 2008 when the young muscian in Tennessee bought it. After enjoying the car for a while his career began to take off and he needed a larger vehicle to haul his equipment so he sold the car to my father in November 2009. Therefore it appears my father is the 4th owner. My father is retired and in his 70’s and has not been driving the car as much as he thought he would so he thought it made sense to let her go to the next lucky owner. With such low mileage this 240D has a long life ahead of it as many of you know. I will try to provide enough pictures and an honest description of this Mercedes Diesel to allow you to decide if this is the right one for you. Enjoy!
The body on this W115 240D is in great shape overall and could be considered somewhat of a survivor with only one repaint in its original color many years ago. As you will see in the pics the paint has a great shine to it still. The body panels are very straight and panel gaps look factory original. You will notice in the pictures that there is a slight paint color difference on the passenger front fender that we were told was scratched and repainted, however the color match was not quite correct. Regardless the body still looks great and it is less noticeable in person then it is in the pictures. The only other flaws to note on the body are a very small thumb nail sized bubble at the lower corner of the passenger door and a small ding on the top of the passenger fender. The chrome grill looks excellent as does the rest of the chrome trim on the car. The original painted wheels look great. This 240D also has a factory original sunroof which functions perfectly and should be opened at every opportunity! Before taking the pics I did a quick wipe down and you will see how great it shines but keep in mind with a professional buff it will look even better! Here is a walk around tour of the beautiful body on this 240D.
Moving on to the interior you will see that the tan leather interior is in as nice or nicer shape then the body on this diesel . Years ago the original horse hair interior was changed out and the interior was completely redone giving it a close to new look and feel. The dash looks excellent with no cracks! Gauges are all clear and function properly. Original Becker stereo still works. The carpeting and headliner look excellent! The factory Air conditioning works and was serviced right after my father bought the car but keep in mind it is not like todays modern a/c so it will not freeze you out but does work. Sitting inside of this Classic it is really hard to believe it is 35 years old. Take a look:
Mercedes 240D was perhaps the most durable diesel-powered Mercedes to ever hit the market! With only 92,500 well maintained original miles on it , this particular one has a very long life ahead of it. Paperwork and receipts show that the car had 60,000 miles on it in 2001 and 80,000 miles on it in 2005. My father has probably only put 1000 miles on it in the close to 2 years he has owned it but he has had it serviced by a Mercedes Specialist who made sure it is in top running condition. This 240D runs out great and is a joy to drive with the 4-speed which shifts very smoothly. Of course you will enjoy great gas mileage out of this Diesel motor. Prior to my father the car had rear brakes done, new master cylinder, new center link and steering stabilizer and all new belts. My father put a new battery in it as well. The undercarriage is indicative of the dry, rust free life this car has had and is rock solid and the same goes for the trunk. As you will see he has all of the original owners manuals, letter from Mercedes and part of the original window sticker as well as the original build sheet card. Take a look:
Hopefully the pics have made it clear that this is truly a quality, beautiful 1976 Mercedes 240D that is sure to be a great investment that you can drive and enjoy! I know the next owner will be thrilled with the condition and quality of this Classic Mercedes. As I mentioned this car is owned by my father and he has a clear title in his name for the car.
