EXTREMELY RARE, T-TOP, 5-SPEED, HIGHLY OPTIONED 1988 PONTIAC FIERO GT WITH UNDER 24,500 MILES, SHOW WINNER IN AMAZING CONDITION!!
1 OF 614FACTORY T-TOP FIERO GT’S and 1 OF 235IN THIS COLOR!
Regardless of whether you are an avid Fiero enthusiast, owned a Fiero back in the day, or knew someone who owned one, it is hard to argue that the 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT is going to be one of the iconic Pontiac Collectible cars as years go by. Among other things, the Fiero was the first 2 seater Pontiac since the 1938 coupes. We all know Pontiac “used” to build excitement and there are sure to be many exciting years to come for owners of low mileage, top quality Fiero GT’s.
We actually sold this Fiero to a gentleman in Michigan a little over a year ago. A few weeks ago I received an email from him letting me know that he and his wife have absolutely loved the car and enjoyed taking it to several shows where it was a real hit. They only drove it on sunny weather days and only put about 300 miles on it. He recently had the opportunity to purchase a 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and unfortunately only really had the space and the time to enjoy one toy at time. He asked if i would be interested in purchasing the Fiero back from him which I quickly did. I had an enclosed transporter pick it up and when it arrived it was in the exact condition I sold it in over a year ago….near flawless!!! This was the 6th Fiero GT I had owned and it is truly in amazing condition and has a rare list of options that any car collector can appreciate. I think any true Fiero enthusiast would agree that this is one of the best optioned, most desirable Fieros on the market and is definitely going to continue to rise in value and collectibility.
Prior to selling it to the gentleman in Michigan I had purchased this awesome 5-speed, T-Top, GT from the second owner who owned this Fiero since 1990. He was a true Fiero enthusiast and enjoyed showing it at the Regional Fiero Shows and other car shows where it consistently won many first place awards. His other passion was Corvettes and he decided he wanted to buy one of the new Gran Sport Corvettes so he needed the garage space. He decided he had his fun with this great Fiero and it was time to pass it along to the next lucky owner. There is quite a strong following for Fieros now and you will find many Fiero Clubs all over the country. It is not unusual to see a few Fieros at your local car shows and cruise-ins and this one would fit in anywhere and will probably bring home a few trophies if that is what you enjoy. At the same time, you can jump in this mid-engine sports car and drive the heck out of it while knowing you have one of the future collectibles that surely be going up in value.
I will do my best to honestly describe this future classic collectible and provide as many pics as possible as well as a video so you can see the true condition and quality of this car and hear it running. Sit back and enjoy!!
This is one of those rare opportunities to buy a collectible sports car that was truly pampered, always well maintained with only 3 owners in 26 years. The body is in fantastic original condition!!The original Ruby Red Paint shines beautifully. Upon close inspection you will find a few tiny rock chips that have been touched up. I point this out to let you know it is not absolutely perfect but it is extremely original and is a proven show winner. The 2nd owner moved several times during his 23 years of ownership and the car was always garage kept and was actually trailered to many of the shows to keep the mileage as low as it is. This Fiero was never winter driven and rarely if ever saw rain. The paint is all original and there have never been any accidents. All of the original VIN stickers are present on the body panels. Pop-up Headlights function perfectly. The body style on the Fiero is really quite sleek and this Ruby Red Metallic beauty is in amazing condition. Take a look around the body:
Of the 6848 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT’s produced only 614 had the Factory T-Top option ordered and this is one of those rare cars. This is shown on the Production sticker with the CJ8 code that shows this was one of the cars that GM sent to Cars and Concepts ( C & C) to have the T-Tops installed. The T-tops lock and I have the key. They fit snug and tight and do not leak. I have a set of T-Top covers that will come with the car. In my opinion the way to drive this Fiero GT is with the T-tops off but it is nice to know that they are there and look great if you need them. The 2nd owner included the original T-top instruction manual which he insisted was extremely rare to find. He mentioned that most of the guys at shows asked for copies of his but he never saw another original manual. Have a look:
When you slide inside this low mileage Fiero you will think you are sitting inside a brand new car. It still has that new car smell! The Light Camel Leather seats are in amazing condition with no wear at all! Dash looks perfect, center console looks new, plastic over the power window controls, ash trays never used, carpeting looks close to new and floor mats look great.. T-tops seal up great but I recommend driving with them off as much as possible!! Power windows and power mirrors function just as new. The steering wheel and 5-speed shifter show almost no wear which is amazing. Very minor scratch in the leather on the steering wheel. The A/C blows ice cold and was recently serviced and charged up.The temperature gauge is a little quirky which was common on these Fieros as is the Fuel gauge which is currently reading higher then actual. In reading comments on the Fiero forums this is quite common and we will try to address it if possible. This Fiero GT was nicely loaded with options including power mirrors, windows, electric rear defogger and cruise control. It also has the very rare Performance Factory Sound Option with sub woofer. Overall the interior is close to showroom new and is show ready!! Have a look inside:
Here is a picture that shows the mileage when I sold this car a little over a year ago and then below that is the current mileage…just under 300 miles put on the car in the past 14 months.
The Fiero’s mid engine layout was chosen as a way to reduce aerodynamic drag and vehicle weight to improve fuel efficiency, and also for its handling, traction and braking benefits. The 1988 Model is considered the most desired by most for many reasons. Numerous changes were made to the 1988 Fiero. The most significant was a completely redesigned suspension to realize the full potential of the mid-engine layout. The new suspension included new two-piece brake calipers and upgraded brake rotors. The GT model included the V6 motor with 43 hp more then the 4 cylinder, upgraded suspension and wider tires. Topping off the package were the new vented disc brakes on all 4 corners. With just under 24,300 original miles this particular Fiero GT has really just been broken in and drives like a new one did in 1988. The 5-speed really adds to the fun of driving this true sports car !! The previous owner replaced the original tires due to age. Tires were replaced with nice set of original Eagle GT+4 Radials that have plenty of tread life left. This particular Fiero runs fantastic with no issues and sounds awesome!!!! The owner cared for this Fiero meticulously. This Fiero handles like it is on rails…fun!! During this final year of production the Pontiac, MI plant where the Fiero was produced shut down and Pontiac made the decision to cease production of the Fiero in February, 1988. There were only 6849 Fiero GT’s produced in this final year. If you do some web research you will see that there are some very interesting comparisons of the Fiero to the Ferrari 308 and performance statistics would surprise the heck out of you with the Fiero. It is a known fact that Pontiac purchased several Ferrari 308 models for handling, engineering and comparison purposes. Some called it a mini Ferrari that was far more affordable. Original Gold Aluminum rims look fantastic!!! Front trunk area looks like it did in 1988 and engine compartment is extremely clean as well. As you will see I have the original window sticker and all of the original manuals. This car retailed at just under $18,000 in 1988…think about that! Here are a few pics of the engine bay and trunk area.
This rare, low mileage, show winning Fiero comes with the pedigree that collectors always appreciate including the original window sticker, original warranty book and manuals and other receipt history. The 2nd owner indicated he took first place at several Fiero show events and other shows and this car should continue to bring home the trophies if that is what you enjoy.
